In 1900 a Committee of un-officials was appointed

to report on the scale of pay of the Subordinate officers in

the Civil Service. In the result the entire pay of the Sub-

ordinate officers both Chinese and Portuguese was revised and

classified, Vide printed correspondence attached, and the new

rates came into force on 1st January 1902.
